Requirements
-For appointment to the position of Resident Magistrate, an applicant must be in possession of the following minimum qualifications: -
- i. A degree in Islamic Law or its equivalent from a recognized University
-Institution;
- ii. Profess the Islamic faith;
- iii. Ability to effectively communicate in English, Kiswahili and Arabic;
- iv. Good conduct in accordance with the Islamic faith; and
- v. Proficiency in computer applications.
- vi. Must not have any pending complaints with any Complaints Commission, the Disciplinary Committee or adverse report from current and previous employer(s);
- vii. Must possess the qualifications set out in Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya.
- Experience:
- Three (3) years relevant experience in Islamic Law relating to personal status, marriage, divorce and inheritance in accordance with the Kadhis Courts Act, Cap. 11 of the Laws of Kenya, and Mohammedan Marriages and Divorces Registration Act, Cap.155 Laws of Kenya; administration of oaths and statutory declarations; preparation, scrutiny and certification of documents and translation of Arabic related documents

Duties and Responsibilities
-Specific duties will include: -
- (i) Arbitration of disputes on inheritance, marriage and divorce in Muslim families;
- (ii) Solemnizing and registering Muslim marriages;
- (iii) Supervising pronunciation of Muslim divorces and registering them;
- (iv) Signing of affidavits, declarations and agreements;
- (v) Translating Arabic related documents;
- (vi) Supervising the registries under him in consultation with the Magistrate in-charge; and
- (vii) Keeping records of all arbitrations and submitting returns of registered marriages and divorces to the Chief Kadhi.

- Shortlisted candidates will be required to submit valid copies of clearance certificates from the following bodies during the interview: -
- • Kenya Revenue Authority,
- • Higher Education Loans Board,
- • Directorate of Criminal Investigation,
- • Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission,
- • a recognized Credit Reference Bureau, and
- • Clearance from relevant professional body.
- 2.
