| Requirements | |
| -For appointment to the positions of Chairperson of the Micro and Small Enterprises Tribunal, an applicant must be in possession of the qualifications provided under Section 102 the Kenya Information and Communications (Amendment) Act as read with Article 166(2) and (5) and Chapter Six of the Constitution, namely:- | |
| - a) Hold a law degree from a recognized university, or be an advocate of the High Court of Kenya, or possess an equivalent qualification in a common-law jurisdiction. | |
| - b) Have at least ten (10) years’ experience as a Superior Court Judge or professionally qualified Magistrate; or | |
| -c) Have at least ten (10) years’ experience as a distinguished academic or legal practitioner or such experience in other relevant legal field; or | |
| -d) Have held the qualifications specified in paragraphs (b) and (c) for a period amounting, in aggregate, to ten (10) years: (Note: experience may have been gained in Kenya or in any other country with a Common Law jurisdiction) | |
| - e) Possess experience in communication policy and law. | |
| - f) Meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution on leadership and integrity. | |
| - In addition, the applicants must demonstrate a high degree of professional competence, communication skills, fairness, good temperament, good judgment in both legal and life experiences and commitment to public and community service. | |
| Duties and Responsibilities | |
| -The Chairperson of the Communications and Multimedia Appeals Tribunal shall preside over the sittings of the tribunal. The jurisdiction of the tribunal is provided for under Section 102(a) of the Kenya Information and Communications (Amendment) Act, namely, to hear and determine complaints made to the tribunal by person(s) aggrieved by:- | |
| - a) Any publication by or conduct of journalist or media enterprise | |
| - b) Anything done against a journalist or media enterprise that limits or interferes with the constitutional freedom of expression of such journalist or media enterprise or | |
| - c) Amy action taken, any omission made or any decision made by any person under the Act. | |
