Requirements
-For appointment to the position of the Deputy Chairperson of the Co-operative Tribunal, the applicant must be in possession of the qualifications provide under Section 77(2) of the Co-operative Societies Act as read with Section 12 and 13 of the Advocates Act, Chapter 16 of the Laws of Kenya and the constitution, namely:-
- (a) Bachelor of Laws degree from a recognized university;
- (b) Passed the prescribed examination of the Council of Legal Education, Kenya and awarded a Diploma or certificate thereby by the Kenya School of Law;
- (c) A certificate of Admission to the Roll of Advocates to practice as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya.
- (d) Held the qualifications in (a) to (c) above for at least five (5) years.
- (e) A member in good standing of the relevant professional body.
- (f) Meet the requirements of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution on leadership and integrity. Knowledge and experience in co-operative society’s matters will be an added advantage
Duties and Responsibilities
-The Deputy Chairperson shall deputize the Chairperson and preside over the sitting of the Tribunal in the absence of the Chairperson. The function and jurisdiction of the Co-operative tribunal id provided for under Section 76 of the Co-operative Societies Act, namely, hear and determine:-
- a) a claim by a co-operative society for any debt or demand due to it from a member or past member, or from the nominee or personal representative of a deceased member, whether such debt or demand is admitted or not; or
- b) a claim by a member, past member or the nominee or personal representative of a deceased member for any debt or demand due from a co-operative society, whether such debt or demand is admitted or not;
- c) a claim by a Sacco society against a refusal to grant or a revocation of licence or any other due, from the Authority.

(d) Applicant’s recent coloured passport size photographs (e) Three (3) samples of any professional writings, including but not limited to judgments, advocacy submissions in courts, scholarly writings or any publications that the applicant has authored, (f) Shortlisted candidates will be required to submit valid copies of clearance certificates from the following bodies during the interview:- • Kenya Revenue Authority, • Higher Education Loans Board, • Law Society of Kenya, • Directorate of Criminal Investigation, • Advocates Complaints Commission, • Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission and • a recognized Credit Reference Bureau.
