| Requirements | |
| -For appointment to this position, an applicant must be in posses the qualifications provided in Section 55(2)(a) of the Sports Act as read with Article 166(2) and (5) and Chapter Six of the Constitution, namely:- | |
| - a) Hold a law degree from a recognized university, or be an advocate of the High Court of Kenya, or possess an equivalent qualification in a common-law jurisdiction. | |
| - b) Have at least ten (10) years’ experience as a Superior Court Judge or professionally qualified Magistrate; or | |
| - c) Have at least ten (10) years’ experience as a distinguished academic or legal practitioner or such experience in other relevant legal field; or | |
| -d) Have held the qualifications specified in paragraphs (b) and (c) for a period amounting, in aggregate, to ten (10) years: (Note: experience may have been gained in Kenya or in any other country with a Common Law jurisdiction) | |
| - e) Meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution on leadership and integrity. | |
| Duties and Responsibilities | |
| -The Chairperson of the Sports Disputes Tribunal will chair the sittings of the tribunal. The functions and jurisdiction of the tribunal are provided under Section 58 and 59 of the Sports Act as follows:- | |
| - (1) Determine appeals against decisions made by national sports organizations or umbrella national sports organizations, whose rules specifically allow for appeals to be made to the Tribunal in relations to issues including:- a) appeals against disciplinary decisions; b) appeals against not being selected for a Kenyan team or squad. | |
| - (2) Determine other sports-related disputes that all parties to the dispute agree to refer to the Tribunal and that the tribunal agrees to hear, and | |
| - (3) Determine appeals from decisions of the Registrar under the Sports Act, | |
| - (4) The Tribunal may apply alternative dispute resolution methods for sports disputes and provide expertise and assistance regarding alternative dispute resolution to parties to a dispute. | |

Shortlisted candidates will be required to submit valid copies of clearance certificates from the following bodies during the interview:- • Kenya Revenue Authority • Higher Education Loans Board • Law Society of Kenya • Directorate of Criminal Investigation • Advocates Complaints Commission • Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission and • a recognized Credit Reference Bureau | |
