Requirements
- The candidate must:-
- Have a Bachelors Degree in Law from a recognized institution;
- Be an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya;
- Have a minimum of five (5) years’ post admission experience in Legal practice with focus on Litigation, Commercial & Conveyancing, Government Contracting, Public Finance, Employment & Labour Relations, Governance, Policy, Regulatory and Statutory compliance;
- Be proficient in Computer applications; and
- Have good personality and integrity.
Duties and Responsibilities
- The Chief Legal Officer will be responsible to the Principal Legal Officer, Legal unit.
- Key Duties & Responsibilities:
- Draft, negotiate, vet, review and approve for execution by the Chief Registrar, contracts, leases, agreements, licences, charges, discharge documents, transfers, security documents, preparation and registration of conveyance documents.
- Draft demand and statuory notices and conduct negotiations, mediation and arbitration hearings for amicable settlements on behalf of Judiciary and advice the Chief Registrar on liability and any quantum payable where necessary.
- Prepare bench memos, desk review reports and written legal opinions and oral submissions when requested by the Chief Registrar, the Directorates, Registrar or any ad hoc Committee formed within the Judiciary, upon any Constitution or Legal questions.
- Conduct pretrial discovery, depositions and witness preparation on behalf of the Judiciary.
- Receive, maintain and keep records of all legal proceedings in Court or tribunal which the Chief Registrar is a party or has interest in her capacity as the Accounting Officer and or administrator of the Judiciary for effective case management.
- Review all the pleadings and advise the Chief Registrar on all actions, lawsuits and proceedings brought against any Judges, Judicial Officer or employees acting in his
-her official capacity in any of the Court proceedings.
- Conduct overall review, research, formulation and implementation of Legal policies in the mandate areas of the Judiciary.
