Requirements
-For appointment to the position of the Chairperson of the Co-operative Tribunal, the candidate must possess the following qualifications:-
- (a) Bachelor of Laws degree from a recognized university;
- (b) Passed the prescribed examination of the Council of Legal Education, Kenya and awarded a Diploma or certificate thereby by the Kenya School of Law;
- (c) A certificate of Admission to the Roll of Advocates to practice as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya.
- (d) Held the qualifications in (a) to (c) above for at least five (5) years.
- (e) A member in good standing of the relevant professional body.
- (f) Provided that the Council may, in addition, require that a person to whom this
- (g) Be of high moral character, integrity and impartiality, in line with Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution.
- In addition to the above qualifications, the candidates must demonstrate a high decree of professional competence, administrative and management skills, communication skills, fairness, good temperament, making good judgment in both legal and life experiences and commitment to public and community life.
- Notes:- Experience may have been gained in Kenya or in any other country with a Common Law jurisdiction.
- Knowledge and experience in co-operative societies matters will be an added advantage
Duties and Responsibilities
-The Deputy Chairperson of the Tribunal shall discharge the following functions:-
- (a) Assist and deputize the Tribunal Chairperson on a daily basis in his
-her duties and responsibilities;
- (b) Participate in all proceedings and in writing reserved awards, rulings and judgments;
- (c) Conduct research in all matters coming before the Tribunal; (d) Formulate and draft both the practice and procedure rules;
- (e) Be available and ready for consultation on judicial and administrative matters as well as in all aspects of registry practice and procedure;
- (f) Oversee training of registry staff;
- (g) Deputize for the Chairperson as provided by Section 80(5) of the Co-operative Societies Act;
- (h) Hear and determine applications for temporary injunctions;
- (i) Any other business as may be assigned by the Tribunal’s Chairperson.

- b) Detailed curriculum vitae with three (3) Professional Referee and two (2) character references who can verify and comment on the applicant’s past and present employment.
- c) One (1) Colored passport photograph
- d) Declaration of income and liabilities as at the time of making the application, using the prescribed forms JSC 2b (The declaration of Income, Asset and Liabilities Form) which can be downloaded from the Judicial Service Commission Website- (www.judicialservicecommission.go.ke or www.judiciary.go.ke). For those who are in Public Service employment, attach copies of the returns declaration of income and liabilities for the last three (3) financial years and those in private Sector attach income tax returns , for the last 3 financial years.
- e) Certified Copies of academic and professional certificates and testimonials
- f) Five (5) sample of any writings by applicant, including but not limited to judgments, advocacy submissions in court, scholarly writing s or any legal publications that the applicant has authored.
- g) Applicants MUST also submit copies of VALID Clearance certificates from the following bodies
- i. Higher Education Loans Board
- ii. Kenya Revenue authority
- iii. Ethics and Anti –Corruption Commission
- iv. Directorate of Criminal Investigation
- v. A recognized Credit Reference Bureau
- Applicants are also required to forward one (1) hard Copy of the Completed Employment Form JSC 2 (available on the Website www.judiciary.go.ke under other downloads) and attaching all the attachments cited above.
