-A person shall be qualified for appointment as Registrar if the person —
- (a) is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and has, since admission to the Roll of Advocates —
- (i) become eligible for appointment as a Judge of the High Court;
- (ii) served for at least ten years as a professionally qualified magistrate; or
- (iii) attained at least ten years’ experience as a distinguished academic or legal practitioner or such experience in other relevant legal field; and
- (b) demonstrated competence in the performance of administrative duties for not less than three years.
- (c) Meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution and be of high moral character, integrity and impartiality. In addition, the applicants must demonstrate a high degree of professional competence, communication skills, fairness, good temperament, making of good judgments in both legal and life experiences and commitment to public and community service.
Duties and Responsibilities
-The Registrar of the Industrial Court shall be responsible for:-
- a) Establishing and maintaining the Register of cases.
- b) Accepting, transmitting, service and custody of documents in accordance with the Rules.
- c) Enforcing the decisions of the Court.
- d) Certifying that any order, direction or decision is an order, direction or decision of the Court, the Chief Justice or a Judge, as the case may be.
- e) Causing to be kept records of the proceedings and minutes of the meetings of the Court and such other records as the Court may direct.
- f) Ensuring publication of the decisions of the Court.
- g) Coordinating and managing the affairs of the Industrial Court.
- h) Preparing annual plans and estimates.
- i) Overseeing the financial and administrative management of the Industrial Court
- j) Mobilizing and managing the resources of the Industrial Court to achieve its core Mandate.
- k) Providing the requisite leadership to ensure that the Court attains a high level of competitiveness and ethical standards
- l) Performing any other duties and responsibilities assigned by the Court.
