-For appointment to this position, an applicant must be in possession of the following qualifications:-
- i) hold a law degree from a recognized university, or are advocates of the High Court of Kenya, or possess an equivalent qualification in a common-law jurisdiction;
- ii) at least ten (10) years’ experience as a Superior Court Judge or professionally qualified Magistrate; or
- iii) at least ten (10) years’ experience as a distinguished academic or legal practitioner or such experience in other relevant legal field; or
- iv) held the qualifications specified in paragraphs (ii) and (iii) for a period amounting, in aggregate, to ten (10) years:
- v) Meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution and be of high moral character, integrity and impartiality. In addition, the applicants must demonstrate a high degree of professional competence, communication skills, fairness, good temperament, good judgment in both legal and life experiences and commitment to public and community service.
-Notes:- • Experience may have been gained in Kenya or in any other country with a Common Law jurisdiction.
- • Knowledge and experience in aviation matters will be an added advantage.
Duties and Responsibilities
-The Chairperson of the National Civil Aviation Administrative Review Tribunal shall be responsible for:-
- i) presiding over all proceedings where he
-she is present in person;
- ii) participating in hearing and determination of all complaints or appeals which come before the Tribunal;
- iii) carrying out inquiry into the complaints or appeals lodged including summoning witnesses, taking evidence and calling for production of books and other documents;
- iv) making finding thereupon and notifying parties concerned of the awards, judgements, orders, rulings and decrees issued by the Tribunal;
- v) making rules of the Tribunal with respect to the filing, hearing and disposal of complaints or appeals and other matters before the tribunal; and
- vi) providing requisite leadership to ensure the Tribunal attains a high level of competiveness and ethical standards in its entire programmes.

- (h) Applicants MUST also submit copies of clearance certificates from the following bodies:-
- • Kenya Revenue Authority,
- • Higher Education Loans Board,
- • Law Society of Kenya,
- • Directorate of Criminal Investigation,
- • Advocates Complaints Commission,
- • Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission and
- • a recognised Credit Reference Bureau.
