Requirements
-I. Requirements for Legal practitioners
-Advocates of the High Court of Kenya to be members of the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal For appointment to this position, an applicant must be in possession of the following qualifications: -
- 1. Hold a Law Degree from a recognized university, or is an advocate of the High Court of Kenya, or possess an equivalent qualification in a Common-Law jurisdiction;
- 2. Possess at least seven (7) years’ experience as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya; or as a distinguished academic in the legal field or legal practitioner or such experience in other relevant legal field or
- 3. Be a citizen of the Republic of Kenya;
- 4. In addition, the applicant must demonstrate a high degree of professional competence, communication skills, fairness, good temperament; good judgment in both legal and life experiences and commitment to public and community service.
- 5. Meets the requirements of Chapter 6 of the Constitution of Kenya.
- 6. The Member shall not be a Member of the Public Service and not be an active participant in the activities of a Political Party.
- Note: Experience may have been gained in Kenya or in any other country with a Common Law jurisdiction
- II. Requirements for Other professionals to be members of the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal
- 1. Be a distinguished professional with vast
-outstanding experience in governance, administrative, social, political, economic and other record;
- 2. Be a citizen of the Republic of Kenya;
- 3. In addition, the applicant must demonstrate a high degree of professional competence, communication skills, fairness, good temperament; good judgment in both legal and life experiences and commitment to public and community service.
- 4. Meets the requirements of Chapter 6 of the Constitution of Kenya.
- 5. The Member shall not be a Member of the Public Service and not be an active participant in the activities of a Political Party.

Duties and Responsibilities
-The Member of the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal shall be responsible for:
- i. Drive the Tribunal’s vision and mission through the implementation of its Programmes and Plans;
- ii. Mobilize and manage the resources of the Tribunal to achieve its core mandate;
- iii. Provide requisite leadership to ensure the Tribunal attains a high level of competitiveness and ethical standards in its entire programmes.
- iv. Preside over all the proceedings where he
-she is present in person with unlimited geographical and pecuniary jurisdiction on matters of disputes;
- v. Participate in hearing and determination of all disputes which come before the full bench;
- vi. Enter judgments in default of appearance;
- vii. Determine and pronounce upon any point of law arising in the course of proceedings before the Tribunal;
- viii. Approve, sign, issue and certify orders, decrees and certificates of costs, copies of proceedings and warrants of attachments for execution of Court decrees and orders; and
- ix. Write and pronounce awards, judgments, orders, rulings and decrees issued by the Tribunal.

- (a) A letter of application;
- (b) A detailed and updated Curriculum Vitae, to include background information such as community service, financial discipline, involvement as a party in litigation and involvement in political activity including financial contribution to political party
-parties (if any) and criminal record, professional engagement for the last five (5) years, three (3) professional referees and two (2) character references who can verify and comment on the applicant’s past and present employment;
- (c) Applicant’s recent coloured passport size photographs
- (d) Three (3) samples of any professional writings, including but not limited to judgments, advocacy submissions in courts, scholarly writings or any publications that the applicant has authored,
- (e) Declaration of income and liabilities as at the time of making the application, using the prescribed forms “The Declaration of Income, Assets and Liabilities Form JSC 2b” which can be downloaded from the JSC website – www.jsc.go.ke (Downloads).
- (f) Certified copies of testimonials, professional certificates and academic transcripts
- Shortlisted candidates will be required to submit copies of clearance certificates from the following bodies:
- • Kenya Revenue Authority,
- • Higher Education Loans Board,
- • Law Society of Kenya (where necessary),
- • Directorate of Criminal Investigation,
- • Advocates Complaints Commission (where necessary),
- • Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission and
- • a recognized Credit Reference Bureau.
- Applicants are also required to forward one (1) hard copy of the completed Employment Application Form JSC 2 for non –public officers and JSC 2A for Public officers which can be downloaded from www.jsc.go.ke (Downloads) and attach all the documents cited in the item No. (1 a to f) above.
