Requirements
-For appointment to the position of Head of Public Affairs and Communication, an applicant must possess the following qualifications:
- 1. A first degree in Communication or related field from a recognised institution
- 2. A Master’s degree in Communication or related field will be added advantage.
- 3. Member of Public Relations Society of Kenya.
- 4. Minimum of twelve (12) years of relevant work experience in communications, with at least five (5) in a management position in a comparable position in a reputable organization
Duties and Responsibilities
-1. Provide leadership in the formulation of institutional Communication Policy and Strategy.
- 2. Spearhead the validation, adoption, production and wide dissemination of the Judiciary Communication Policy and Strategy.
- 3. Track institutional adherence to Communication Policy and Strategy and advise as appropriate.
- 4. Take charge of collating a regular online information portal, to keep internal & external stakeholders abreast with happenings in the Judiciary. Promote free subscription by the public, media and stakeholders.
- 5. Act as Communication Liaison Officer for all Judiciary Special Committees established to enhance access to justice in specified areas. Prepare and oversee execution of their communication plans.
- 6. Identify and draft proposals for donor funding.
- 7. Organize regular meetings with key internal and external stakeholders’ to review the organization’s communication performance and strategize on emerging issues
- 8. Oversee timely execution of policy utterances issued by the Judiciary Executives during public forums
- 9. Develop research proposals for communication matters, and commission research as appropriate (e.g. Judiciary media coverage; Public education or awareness about specific matters; Review of effectiveness of communication campaigns etc)
- 10. Prepare, update and share Judiciary’s Annual Calendar of events with a view to streamlining planning, participation and communication
- 11. Oversee branding and production of promotional merchandize to raise visibility of the Judiciary brand
- 12. Champion wide publicity and visibility of Judiciary
- 13. Compile special and routine management and government reports
- 14. In charge of the unit’s day-to-day operations and administration, Develop, execute and review digital communication strategies
- 15. Liaise with Executive Offices and facilitate communication support on emerging issues
- 16. Ensure client queries and feedback collected from media, digital, and other channels is responded to or referred promptly. Promote the ethos of a customer-centric institution.
- 17. Monitor, advise management and respond to reputational attacks on the Judiciary, with a view to safeguarding the institution’s image
- 18. Make presentations to Judicial officers, staff and stakeholders on communication matters
- 19. Create profiling opportunities, vet, route and manage Executives and Judicial officers’ media and related engagement
- 20. Media mapping: Develop and constantly update database of all key media (including vernacular media) and liaising with them as appropriate.
- 21. Establish and oversee a continuous media training programme (across the country) on Judiciary’s special initiatives, emerging issues and administration of justice
- 22. Stakeholder mapping: Link internal champions with key institutional target audiences. Create dialogue and follow-up opportunities to propel Judiciary’s Transformation agenda
- 23. Compile regular reports on news media coverage of the Judiciary, (analyzing the length, tone, key issues etc.) and outlining PAC’s interventions and proposals, for the Judiciary’s management and JSC
- 24. Manage corporate gifting : institutional memorabilia and gifts for high profile corporate guests
- 25. Administer, track, and alternately sign off unit’s budget and procurement commitments.
- 26. Serve in management committees.
- 27. Take charge of unit’s team building and welfare issues.
